Rules at a Glance

 

Zero Tolerance Rule

Blatant disrespect toward Officials, Timekeeper/Scorekeepers or other competitors will not be allowed. Blatant disrespect will be defined as yelling, name calling, improper gesturing, improper taunting, interrupting the ring without due process or threatening any official or competitor. Brawling or total disregard for the rules will result in immediate disqualification of a competitor be it through their own actions or actions from an outside source on their behalf. Brawling will be defined as physical confrontation between two or more people with the sole intent of causing bodily harm or damage to one another. Any fights where “street” techniques are being used (Example: Elbows, eye gouging, purposeful groin shots, hair pulling). Offenders of this rule will be dealt with in accordance to the AKA Code of Conduct documentation.

FORMS & WEAPONS RULES (Under Belt)

  1. Point Spread to use 9.90 to 9.99 all divisions

  2. .02-point deviation from middle score (not center judge)

  3. Split Division if more than 12 Competitors

  4. Tie Breaker - 1st is Majority of Judges if they are the same then show of hands

  5. Weapons Drops-1st drop ok but each judge cannot give a score higher than 9.95

  6. Restarts of forms/weapons are allowed without penalty for Novice divisions 9 & under only. All other divisions will receive a .05 point deduction

  7. Traditional forms - must be martial arts techniques, no inversions or extreme moves

  8. Creative forms - rolls and butterfly kicks are Ok, no inversions or extreme moves

  9. Extreme forms - Has to have an inversion or a technique that goes past 360 degrees in a single rotation.

  10. Musical forms –Competitor should at least make an attempt to hit major beats

  1. Safety Gear - head, hands, feet, mouth guard, groin cup.

  1. Time of match - 2 minutes or 5 Points

  2. Points - 1 point punch, 2-point kick

  3. Out of bounds - 1 foot out is out

    1. Scoring out of bounds - person out cannot score, person in can score until stop is called.

  4. No purposely running out of bounds​

    1. First incident- Warning

    2. Second incident - Point awarded

    3. Disqualification

  5. Front leg sweep is ok

  6. NO Face Contact

    1. First incident- Warning

    2. Second incident - Point awarded

    3. Disqualification

  7. If a competitor is not ready when called (pads not on, doesn't have equipment etc..) they will have 1 minute to get ready then a point will be awarded to opponent, then the same for next two minutes. After three minutes person is disqualified.

SELF DEFENSE RULES (Under Belt)

  1. Competitor must provide their own attacker

  2. Competitor must provide their own weapons for defense against a weapon

    1. Any bladed weapons must be wooden, rubber, or have rounded edges. No sharpen blades will be allowed

    2. Any firearm weapon must be wooden or rubber. No pellet guns, air guns or any live weapons will be allowed ​

  3. Competitor must demonstrate 3 - 5 different scenarios within the 2 minute time limit. Defense against a weapon many note exceed more than 2 of those scenarios​

  4. If competitor goes over the 2 minute mark, .05 points will be deducted from final score

PADDED SWORD SPARRING RULES 

  1. ALL COMPETITORS must have a sparring helmet with a face mask to compete in this division - NO EXCEPTIONS!

  2. All matches are 2 minutes or first to 5 points

  3. The whole upper body, waist and higher, is a legal target area. Straight thrusts to stomach, chest or neck is considered a legal scoring technique

  4. All scoring techniques are worth 1 point

  5. Competitors must have control of their sword at all times

    1. First drop - Warning​

    2. Second drop - point to opponent

  6. Out of bounds - 1 foot out is out

  7. Scoring out of bounds - person out cannot score, person in can score until stop is called.

  8. No purposely running out of bounds​

    1. First incident- Warning

    2. Second incident - Point awarded

    3. Disqualification
